This is the start of something good.
I feel like history has its long list of things that went wrong, people killed, massacres, genocide, and with each one of these events there were people outside of the event... people who knew what was going on, and didn't know what to do, so didn't do anything at all. and a couple thousand deaths later, they look back and say WHY or HOW did this happen?
or maybe in our lives we're like... in this flow of doing the same damn thing every day whether its good or bad or whether it feels good or not, and then we get so far with whatever we're about and we see something outside of our realm, and say damn... i've been missing this! what have i been doing all this time? how did i get here?
for me its like... i go about my business, i go to church, i go to school, i get straight A's, i really love music and love being enlightened and informed about things that are interesting to me or things that other people are really interested in. i love going to open mic coffee houses and learning about things that matter. i took a trip to africa, and i got this email a few days ago. and it has effected me so deeply that i MUST do something. and i look at how much this means to me, how it affects me emotionally, how i truly care to the point that this is a burden weighing heavily on me and bringing me to tears when i try to comprehend the mission before me. and i think, how did i get to THIS place? writing THIS blog? trying to inspire people to give to THIS cause. Here's the email:
... Jodi, what I’d like you to do first is to think seriously about these children as if you were living the situation. Before I deal with street children of Bujumbura who are careless, I must come in help to those who are dying up in the country. And I want you to help me in this project in this way : Try to become the ambassador of these children in your region. Share this situation with your family, your friends, your neighbors, and you church members (especially the youth) and so on …What you will ask them is not to give a lot of money to put end to this hungriness. But it to ask them to give just what they can get easily, and in the way they are guided by the holy spirit. Even if someone gives you 10$, do not refuse. However it is, we will start with the help you will send us. I could do it here, but when ask people they tell me that they help them monthly with their salaries. Others say: I will take it myself to them.
Once money is collected, send us e-mails and names of givers. We will take time to pray for them day after day and we will send them also mails in order to thank them. We will also send you not only pictures, but also VCD on which you will see the way we are helping them. Please Jody, take this project as serious in order to save lives who are perishing.
After this special case of northern provinces, we may probably begin to deal with street children of Bujumbura who are careless. If it arrives for one of those givers to wish to come in Burundi, you can make us know. We will be ready to receive him and guide him in what he wants until he is back. If there is something that you don’t understand or if you need some further information, you can ask me. I am sorry for writing you a so long letter, it is because my heart is very touched by this situation. And I felt that I can not keep silence in font of a such situation. What I do is to ask, then God will do the remaining things. I am praying for it and for you so that God can touch your heart first and secondly hearts of people you will contact. Thank you for receiving this message, God bless you. I am waiting for the answer.
Sincerely yours, Augustin
The only thing i can say is that i feel compelled to give back because i have so much and i've been able to enjoy these years of my life i've had so far, and i know that people are people and we're all equal, and the way things are don't support that statement, and maybe we can help. we can. and thats what this blog is about. To help spread the word. And to hopefully communicate that this is very real and it wont take much out of your life to give to these people. you don't have to give a lot, but try giving something, you can't regret it.
This is the start, let me know what resources you can think of to help. I have a guitar and a voice and would love to play a show anyplace to raise money. so please, let me know what you think can be done, and tell other people whats happening because the news doesnt even have articles about this, Burundi isn't so important to the US. But the fact that we are free allows us people to give to other people. so please consider your ability to change a situation and help out.
